Brand Story
Robert Mühle founded the brand in 1869 to manufacture measuring instruments for the local watchmakers. After German reunification, the family refounded the company to focus on wristwatches. Mühle developed a patented ‘woodpecker-neck’ regulation mechanism to improve movement shock resistance, cementing the brand’s reputation for engineering watches that survive extreme physical impacts.
Design Language
Mühle watches focus on massive case walls, high-contrast dials, and heavy bezels. Dials are printed with massive luminous numerals, and the crowns are often placed at 4 o’clock to prevent wrist interference.
Movements & Manufacturing
Mühle utilizes Swiss Sellita base automatic movements, which are extensively modified in Glashütte. Every movement is fitted with Mühle’s custom rotor and the proprietary woodpecker regulation, adjusted in five positions to Glashütte rules.
Notable Models
S.A.R. Rescue-Timer is a highlight of their production line.
Why Enthusiasts Care
Mühle Glashütte remains one of the few independent family-owned manufacturers in Glashütte. Their S.A.R. Rescue-Timer is a legend in German watchmaking—an over-engineered, bulletproof tool watch that has been worn by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) for decades.
