After more than a year of absence from the brand’s online storefront, the popular dual-time traveler watch from UK-based microbrand Arken is making a highly anticipated return. The Arken Alterum, first launched to praise for its compact proportions and robust titanium construction, returns in a brand new “Sage Grey” dial variant, debuting officially on May 23, 2026.
The new “Sage Grey” dial is a desaturated, subtle take on British racing green. In most lighting conditions, it appears as a cool, near-monochromatic grey with only a gentle hint of green undertones. This understated backdrop is complemented by a warm, sand-colored dual-time hand that provides a tasteful contrast, keeping the dial legible and visually engaging.
Hardened Titanium and Compact Proportions
True to Arken’s design ethos, the Alterum “Sage Grey” is housed in a compact 38mm case crafted from Grade 2 titanium. The case is treated with an anti-scratch coating to ensure durability in daily use. Despite the additional mechanical complexity under the dial, the watch maintains wearability with a lug-to-lug distance of 46mm and a thickness of 13mm. Legibility is further aided by applied 3D ceramic-molded Super-LumiNova BGW9 indices and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
A Custom Dual-Time Module
Rather than utilizing a standard GMT movement, Arken utilizes a proprietary mechanical module—designated as caliber ARK-9015DT2—developed in-house to sit atop a reliable Miyota 9015 automatic base. This custom module powers a unique 12-hour dual-time layout. Instead of a 24-hour scale, local and home times are indicated via two standard 12-hour hands. Day/night indicators for both time zones are visible through two circular apertures on the dial, while a subdial at 6 o’clock displays the date. The watch also features a screw-down crown and pusher, achieving a robust 200 meters of water resistance.
Availability and Pricing
The Arken Alterum “Sage Grey” is priced at £630 (approximately $850 USD) and comes on a bespoke quick-release tapered nylon strap with custom titanium end links. Arken is releasing the watch in two waves to manage demand: an initial “in-stock” release on May 23, 2026, followed by an unlimited pre-order window opening on May 30, 2026, with deliveries scheduled between Q4 2026 and Q2 2027. Along with this release, Arken has confirmed that the previous black and anthracite versions of the Alterum have been discontinued online.
