Brand Story
After studying watchmaking in Finland and Switzerland, Kari Voutilainen worked for ten years at the prestigious Parmigiani restoration workshop, where he restored some of the most complex historic clocks in existence. In 2002, he established his own manufacture. Voutilainen has won multiple awards at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). In 2021, Voutilainen purchased the dial manufacturer Comblémine, securing his ability to produce some of the finest dials in the world.
Design Language
The Voutilainen aesthetic is classical and elegant, defined by its teardrop-shaped lugs, onion crowns, and hand-finished Breguet-style hands with gold index rings. Dials are made of solid silver, showcasing multiple intricate guilloché patterns created on historic rose-engine lathes. Color palettes are entirely customizable, often featuring deep, rich lacquers.
Movements & Manufacturing
Voutilainen’s Calibre 28 is a mechanical masterpiece. Designed and manufactured in-house, it features a unique direct-impulse escapement with two balance wheels, which requires less energy and is highly stable. The movement finishing is industry-leading, featuring polished steel wheels, large frosted bridges, and perfectly rounded hand-polished bevels.
Notable Models
Vingt-8: The core Voutilainen watch, featuring a manual-wind movement, dual-impulse escapement, and a beautiful sub-seconds dial.
28SC: A version of the Calibre 28 featuring a sweep central seconds hand, a major technical complication for this movement layout.
GMR: A watch combining Voutilainen’s dual-impulse movement with a second time zone and a retrograde power reserve indicator.
Why Enthusiasts Care
Kari Voutilainen is widely considered one of the greatest living watchmakers, and his hand-finishing standards are the benchmark for the entire watch industry. Owning a Voutilainen watch is akin to owning a commissioned work of art, representing the absolute peak of traditional Swiss watchmaking craftsmanship.
